Size: 8,200 Tons

Duration: Six Months

Location: Romulus, Michigan

The Midwest Steel Team managed the steel fabrication subcontracts and erected 8,200 Tons of structural steel for the new North Terminal at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Romulus, Michigan.

The new twenty-six (26) gate terminal complex will serve the airlines that have been operating out of the L.C. Smith Terminal for many years: American Airlines, Air Canada, America West, Independence Air, Spirit, Southwest, U.S. Airways and United Airlines. The Complex design of the new terminal includes geometries that required unique connections and innovative erection techniques during the erection phase. The Midwest Team responded quickly to all of the complex changes in the design and incorporated them immediately into the fabrication process and erection sequences. Innovative scheduling was necessary to keep the project on schedule. Even with all the changes, Midwest Steel erected the entire 800,000 square feet (three concourses) in six months. We had an excellent Safety Record on this project - - zero incidents.
