Project Manager

Midwest Steel, the nation's leading Structural Steel contractor, continues to build its specialty in the Automated Storage/Retrieval System and Rack industry. The Project Manager Position

The Project Manager role offers a blend of office and field work and provides the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the business and financial side of construction, along with a plethora of field experience working on unique and complex projects. The Project Manager works closely with the Division Managers, the third-party designers, the customer, and the other project stakeholders to support initial design, pricing, value engineering and updates to design, initial CAD drawings and sketch-ups, and everything else related to bringing the project to life at the front end of the project.

Midwest Steel ensures that its entire team is well-rounded and understands the AS/RS and steel business from the ground up. This means that the newest Engineer will go through a training process that includes actual hands-on in the field, as well as in the fabrication shop at Midwest Steel's sister company, Indiana Bridge. Other key highlights of the job include direct experience working alongside a Manager that has 40+ years within the business, other experienced professionals in the office and the field, working on unique projects, and having the opportunity to grow as this division and industry continues to grow.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities for the Project Manager

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • Work experience in the engineering and/or construction industry, preferably in the AS/RS or structural industry
  • Experience with AutoCAD 2D and 3D, exposure to Revit, Tekla, and other industry-leading tools preferred
  • Willingness to put in the time and effort required to become a true expert in the field of rack structures
  • Creative and results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals

This position is based in Midwest Steel's Headquarters in Detroit, MI. The position requires travel during the training period for the first 4-6 weeks, but then is expected to be office-based 90% of the time.
